TMJ Hosts High-Level Meeting on Malaysian Football’s Future
Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim hosts a crucial meeting with Sports Minister and FAM president to discuss the future of Malaysian football and recent funding initiatives.
KUALA LUMPUR: The future of Malaysian football took the spotlight as Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the Regent of Johor, convened a high-powered meeting with Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and FAM president Tan Sri Hamidin Amin in Johor Bahru.
The gathering, which followed the 2025 Budget announcement, focused on critical issues affecting Malaysian football, including the development of the national team and youth squads.
This meeting came after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of a RM15 million allocation for football development, which includes funding for top coaches, training program enhancements, and player incentives.
“Tunku Mahkota Ismail, the Regent of Johor, welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Johor Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi on Oct 23. Various current affairs and topics related to Johor were discussed during this meeting.
“Also present were FAM president Hamidin and Sports Minister Hannah, who discussed plans for the Malaysian football team and its development,” the statement read.
These discussions are seen as a coordinated effort between the government, FAM, and Johor royalty to elevate Malaysia’s football aspirations.
With targeted investments in the national, Under-18, and Under-13 teams, this collaboration aims to enhance Malaysia’s international football presence and nurture local talent.
