JITRA: The tragic case of Sabari Baharom, a retired officer from Felcra, has taken a disturbing turn as his son revealed his connection to one of the suspects involved in the case. Sabari’s remains are believed to have been discarded in the Sungai Padang Terap, igniting outrage within the local community.

Muhammad Amir Hakimi Sabari, 25, condemned the act as “outrageous,” expressing his disbelief regarding the actions of the suspect he recognized. This contractor had been working on a neighboring property for the past five months, and Muhammad Amir felt compelled to voice his concerns.

“I know the person involved, and what he has done is entirely cruel and unacceptable,” he told reporters on Monday, September 30, while present at the scene in Sungai Padang Terap, seeking police updates on the ongoing search for his father’s body.

He shared that his father frequently interacted with one of the suspects, often exchanging pleasantries and having short conversations while passing the construction site. “The suspect is an outsider, not from our village, and my father was always kind to him,” he explained.

As the youngest of three siblings, Muhammad Amir expressed the deep sorrow felt by his family as they await updates from the police. They remain hopeful that the search efforts will soon lead to the discovery of Sabari’s remains. “We will keep performing solat hajat until we can find my father’s body. I hope those involved in the search can find a way to locate him, especially with the current flood conditions,” he noted.

Earlier, Comm Datuk Fisol Salleh, the Kedah police chief, confirmed that Sabari, 62, was believed to have been thrown into the river with his hands tied and mouth sealed with tape by two suspects. However, the search for his body, which has been missing since September 4, has yet to yield results.

The investigation gained momentum with the arrest of two local male suspects, aged 26 and 38, on Friday, September 27. The community is still grappling with the brutality of this act and is eager for further developments from law enforcement. – Bernama
