PM Anwar Cybersecurity Requires a United Front
PETALING JAYA: With the rising prevalence of cyber threats, ensuring a secure digital environment is a shared responsibility among the government, private entities, and the public, says PM Anwar Ibrahim. His senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, stated that Anwar chaired the inaugural National Cybersecurity Meeting on Tuesday (March 11).
“The complexity of cyber threats continues to grow due to the interconnectedness of modern life, demanding a robust cybersecurity framework. Both the government and private sector, along with citizens, have crucial roles to play in strengthening Malaysia’s resilience against cyber risks,” he explained in a statement uploaded to Anwar’s Facebook page.
Cybersecurity Developments and Key Initiatives
During the meeting, officials reviewed Malaysia’s cybersecurity landscape, highlighting a decrease in cyber incidents from 2023 to 2024. Discussions also covered the ongoing developments of the Cyber Security Act 2024 (Act 854), which will be reinforced by appointing a national critical information infrastructure (NCII) chief and cybersecurity specialists. Additionally, Tunku Nashrul announced the launch of a “Cyber Games” initiative and an ASEAN-level cybercrime conference in May 2025, co-organized by the National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa), the Council of Europe, and Interpol.

Encouraging Collaboration and Religious Engagement
The government is encouraging local cybersecurity experts to collaborate on enhancing Malaysia’s digital security ecosystem using homegrown expertise. Earlier that day, Anwar also welcomed religious scholars from Kelantan to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), engaging in discussions on Islamic policies and Muslim development. He emphasized unity in addressing Islamic issues while strengthening policies related to education and religious governance.
