Huang Yaqiong Celebrates Double Joy at Paris Olympics
Huang Yaqiong wins Olympic gold in mixed doubles and gets engaged to Liu Yuchen in a memorable Paris Olympics moment.
August 2, 2024, will be one of the most unforgettable days in the life of Chinese badminton player Huang Yaqiong. Not only did she win the gold medal in mixed doubles at the Paris Olympics alongside her partner Zheng Siwei, but she was also romantically proposed to by her boyfriend, Liu Yuchen, after the match.
In the mixed doubles final, the world number one “Yas Combination” of Zheng and Huang defeated South Korea’s “Kim-Yun Combination” of Kim Won-ho and Jeong Na-yin with scores of 21-8 and 21-11, avenging their loss in the Tokyo Olympics final. After the match, Liu, holding flowers and a diamond ring, proposed to Huang on one knee. Huang happily accepted and wore the ring.
This age-gap couple has attracted significant attention since they went public with their relationship on social media in May. Although Liu was eliminated in the group stage of the Olympics, he ultimately came away with the love of his life, marking a successful chapter for both athletes.
