The individual accused of murdering interior designer Muhammad Sharqawi Abu Bakar, 36, will be officially charged tomorrow in the Petaling Jaya Court, according to a statement by Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Jaafar, the District Police Chief of Petaling Jaya.
The 50-year-old suspect, who was unemployed at the time of arrest, was taken into custody along with two other suspects at a Kuala Lumpur apartment on Sept 20. Police have determined that the motive for the attack was theft.
Shahrulnizam explained that the suspect entered Muhammad Sharqawi’s home intending to steal, but was caught by the victim. A violent altercation followed, resulting in the victim’s death.
Muhammad Sharqawi was discovered on Sept. 16 at his residence in Persiaran Meranti, Bandar Sri Damansara, with more than 20 stab wounds. The case, initially classified as a break-in, was reclassified as a robbery leading to death after personal belongings were reported missing from the scene.
