JOHOR BARU: Police arrested three individuals, including a husband and wife, in a significant drug trafficking case, seizing over RM700,000 worth of drugs in Bandar Seri Alam.

According to Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak, officers made the arrests at 9:30 PM on October 18, following a week-long operation by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID).

The suspects waited to deliver the drugs to other members of the syndicate, who remain at large. “This group appears to be part of a larger syndicate, operating as couriers transporting drugs from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Baru,” Supt Sohaimi stated.

They collected the drugs and waited for others in the syndicate to pick them up. Authorities will hand over the vehicle used for storage and transport to those responsible for distribution.

The three arrested individuals include a 58-year-old local man, his 45-year-old foreign wife, and a 40-year-old male driver. All three tested negative for drugs. Background checks revealed that the local man has two previous drug-related offences, the driver has seven, and the woman has one.

This group has reportedly been active since July. Police seized 20 packets of syabu weighing about 22kg, valued at RM705,472. Each packet weighs approximately 1kg and is worth more than RM30,000.

Additionally, police confiscated the syndicate’s vehicle, valued at RM45,000. The suspects remain in remand until Thursday, October 31, to assist in the investigation. Authorities are investigating the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
