MRT3 Construction May Not Start Until 2027 | Says CEO
MRT Corp targets a 2027 start for MRT3, contingent on land acquisition and the evolving economic situation.
Land Acquisition Process and Delayed Construction Start
KUALA LUMPUR: MRT Corp’s CEO Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim has shared that the on-site construction of the MRT3 project may only commence in 2027, depending on the completion of the land acquisition process that is still in progress.
Public inspections are scheduled to run until December 2. Once concluded, MRT Corp will finalize the alignment and proceed with land acquisition, which is expected to take about 24 months, possibly extending into 2026.
Hopes for 2027 Launch Despite Economic Uncertainties
“Our goal is to begin in 2027, but that depends on economic conditions,” Zarif said. “Given the improving economy, we believe it will provide a solid foundation to move forward,” he added during a press briefing at the Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Awards (MCIEA 2024).
