China’s Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong Claim First Olympic Gold in Mixed Doubles
At the Paris Olympics, China’s top-ranked mixed doubles team, Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong, celebrated their first Olympic gold medal, successfully overcoming the disappointment of their loss in the Tokyo Olympics final.
The final match showcased their dominance as they defeated South Korea’s eighth-ranked duo, Kim Won-ho and Jung Na-eun, with a decisive score of 21-8, 21-11.
This victory not only marks China’s inaugural badminton gold medal at the Paris Olympics but also their fifth in mixed doubles throughout Olympic history.
With this triumph, China’s overall gold medal tally at the Paris Olympics now stands at 13. Zheng and Huang, who were the favorites in the Tokyo Olympics but finished with silver after losing to teammates Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping, have finally realized their Olympic aspirations with this victory.
