UPNM Bullying Allegations: Senior Cadet Under Investigation

KUALA LUMPUR: Nine people have provided statements to the police as part of the ongoing investigation into the bullying incident at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM).
Statements Recorded
Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, the police chief of Kuala Lumpur, confirmed that the statements of the 19-year-old victim and eight other witnesses have been recorded since the police report was filed on November 8.
“We plan to take the statement of the suspect, a senior cadet, today at the Cheras police station. The investigation is being conducted under Section 325 of the Penal Code,” Comm Rusdi said on Monday, November 11.
Request for Patience
Comm Rusdi also urged the public to avoid speculation about the case.
“We request that everyone allow the police to carry out a thorough investigation,” he added.
Details of the Incident
This incident involves an alleged bullying event at UPNM that resulted in significant injury to the victim.
According to a police report filed on November 8 at around 8:40 pm, the victim, a first-year student, was injured after a roll call on October 21.
“The 19-year-old victim reportedly suffered fractured ribs and a spine injury after being stepped on by a third-year cadet. He is receiving medical treatment for his injuries,” Comm Rusdi stated.
Minister Calls for Action
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin reiterated that bullying is unacceptable.
“These incidents should never happen and they tarnish the image of UPNM and other universities. We will fully cooperate with the police during the investigation,” he said.
