A crocodile attack tragically ends a fisherman’s life in Kinabatangan, with his body found by villagers 1km from the site.
KOTA KINABALU: Villagers in Kampung Bilit, along the Kinabatangan River, have recovered the body of a man believed to have been killed in a crocodile attack after his boat capsized. The victim, 40-year-old Masdi Sahar, was found on Friday (Dec 27), about 1km downstream from where the tragic incident occurred.
Boat Collision Leads to Fatal Consequences
Masdi and three companions were navigating a boat loaded with belian wood when it collided with an unidentified object, causing it to capsize. While the others managed to swim to safety, they heard Masdi shouting for help and claiming he was under attack by a crocodile. Sadly, they were unable to save him.
Swift Emergency Response
The Kinabatangan fire station received the alert at 1:35 pm on Thursday. Rescuers, including fire department personnel, police officers, wildlife rangers, and local villagers, arrived at the scene by 2:45 pm to conduct the search operation.
Ongoing Investigation
After being found by the villagers, Masdi’s body was handed over to the police for further examination. Early reports suggest that he and a companion were fishing along the river before the tragic series of events unfolded.
