Malaysians Urged to Stay Alert Amid Southern Thailand Floods
Malaysians are warned to stay alert and follow local advice as floods continue to impact Southern Thailand.
Flood Warnings Issued Amid Heavy Rain
BANGKOK: In light of the extensive flooding across Southern Thailand caused by continuous rainfall, the Malaysian Consulate in Songkhla has recommended that Malaysians delay travel to the region.
Official Advisory from the Consul General
On Thursday (Nov 29), Malaysian Consul General Ahmad Fahmi Ahmad Sarkawi issued a statement cautioning against non-essential travel. “Heavy rain over the past few days has resulted in severe flooding, forcing mass evacuations and disrupting lives in Southern Thailand,” he stated.
Guidelines for Malaysians in Affected Regions
Ahmad Fahmi urged Malaysians in Southern Thailand to stay updated on weather conditions, adhere to official announcements, and prioritize safety. “Keep yourselves safe and support one another. Contact our consulate at +6693-6570707 if required,” he advised.
Floods Cause Widespread Disruption
The DDPM reported that seven southern provinces, including Yala, Narathiwat, and Satun, are experiencing severe flooding, with more than 136,000 households displaced and widespread damage reported across 50 districts and nearly 2,000 villages.
Efforts to Mitigate the Disaster
Relief operations are ongoing, with resources like boats, rescue helicopters, and water pumps deployed. Volunteer groups, including the “Guardian Team,” are actively aiding affected communities, while damage assessments are being conducted to allocate financial aid promptly.
